JANUARY 2026
Six students from the Valley Jazz Orchestra were selected to represent LVC at the JENerations Jazz Festival, part of the Jazz Education Network annual conference, held in New Orleans recently. At the conference, they were immersed in jazz: attending clinics, presentations, and concerts. In between sessions, they ventured out into the city to experience a little bit of the culture of New Orleans. On the concluding day, they performed a short set of music before a panel of adjudicators and received meaningful feedback. These students had been preparing this music since the beginning of fall semester, willingly meeting every Friday morning at 8am to rehearse (fresh donuts were a short-term incentive). They returned to campus a week early to further prepare by performing for local high schools prior to their departure to New Orleans.

Way to represent LVC, Taiylor, John, Owen, Liesl, Rhys, and Aidan!
Honorable mention: Dr. Justin Morell, composer-in-residence, aptly accompanied them on drum set! He also gave a fantastic presentation on composition to a packed room at the conference.
