Debuting the solarpunk jazz style, Dr. Ohm’s DJO presents a modern take on jazz with a futuristic twist.

So, who is the robot behind all these tunes? In an exclusive interview, Dr. Ohm opened up about their past, their love for music, and their unusual passion for Earth’s ecosystems. Computer scientists on site took the time to translate and summarize the binary for our readers.

Dr. Ohm, bandleader for the Digital Jazz Orchestra, belongs to a lineage of robots tracing all the way back to the first digital metronome.

“Mechanically, the market can be tough out there for musicians, sure, but it’s in my circuit, you know? Can’t turn against the gears, at the end of the day.”

Dr. Ohm confessed that this tour is actually their first time back visiting Earth since they were put together in a tinkerer’s basement, though many members of their orchestra are based out of cities across the planet. Dr. Ohm never found much of an appreciation for their jazz among fellow bots. Humans, on the other hand, have been going crazy for it, and Dr. Ohm even hinted that they were considering a long-term installation in the U.S.

“Earth? Oh, it has been a blast. The gasoline tastes different, of course, and playing for the human audience really just closes your circuit, you know? I didn’t know what to think when our manager, Watt Jr., told us to load up the spaceship, but wow. We’ve been playing garages, junkyards, we did a tour of all the RadioShacks in the U.S. I mean, they’ve soldered right to us everywhere.”

One of the most unexpected things about Dr. Ohm’s success here has been their newfound status as an environmental activist. Though not confirmed, one of our sources even mentioned talk of a potential Green Party nomination in the bot’s future. The narrative music video released with the “Jungle Book” single establishes the Digital Jazz Orchestra’s strong stance against deforestation.

“The deforestation thing? Yeah, I bet it does sound like I’ve got my wires crossed, being a robot who cares about trees. To be honest, it reminds me of the cell tower forests from home. This Earth tour has been wonderful, don’t get me wrong, we are so grateful for all the attention from the human units, but being away from home for so long… you start to miss the sights. Anyway, seeing you humans chop down all these trees, when, correct me if I’m wrong, trees make oxygen, and humans actually rely on that stuff to breathe? It’d be like smashing all our solar panels back home just to make a few new bots – that bulb’ll burn out pretty quick, as they say.”

Critics argue that there may be no point in creating new music due to the certain impending doom of a robot uprising that will wipe out the human species, aka the audience, but Dr. Ohm has always had a few screws loose, and seems insistent upon releasing music until the end.

Make sure to check out the single and accompanying music video this Earth Day. “Jungle Book,” coming out 04.22.2026, follows the first Dr. Ohm DJO release, “Dog Years,” and can be streamed anywhere you find music. Fans can look forward to a full Dr. Ohm album on vinyl somewhere on the horizon. In the meantime, tighten your screws and keep an eye out for robot overloads.
